The “Doug’s Own” Monmouth University Pep Band is under the direction of Professor Bryan H. Jenner. The band is a recognized performance ensemble with the Department of Music and Theatre Arts. The Pep Band is one of the busiest and most recognized ensembles on campus, performing upwards of 50 times a year. Affectionately labeled “The Big Sound of the Jersey Shore” by MU President Paul G. Gaffney II, the band works to build spirit and excitement at all home Football and Men’s and Women’s basketball games. Many members are music majors, and many are not. The band also awards a scholarship from the Doug Johnson estate. Doug was a long-time supporter of Monmouth University and the Pep Band, and his widow Elaine, selects one Pep Band member each year for this prestigious scholarship.
The Pep Band was inactive for many years and was re-established in 2003 by Aimee Parks. Bryan Jenner became the director in 2009.
